Service & Missions

Service & Missions

The church is a body that serves.

At Hope Brussels we aim for everybody to give of their time, talents, and/or resources, whether that be service within the local church, outreach to the surrounding community, or missions to the ends of the earth.

Biblical Basis for Missions and Mercy Ministry

Christian missions is rooted in the Bible’s teachings and God’s desire for all humanity to worship him (Isa 66:22-23; Matt 28:19-20). Christian missions aims for the growth of God’s global church. The essence of missions is to share the good news of Jesus Christ, inviting more to believe, turn from sin, and enjoy eternal life.

The practice of missions is exemplified in Acts 2:41-47 and Acts 14:21-23.

  • Acts 2:41-47 outlines the inward focus of a church, emphasizing simple ministries like devotion to the Word, the Sacraments, Prayer, and the Fellowship. When we love God and care sacrificially for one another, we see that the church finds favor with outsiders and the Lord adds to his church (Acts 2:47).

  • Acts 14:21-23 illustrates the outward focus of missions, where Paul’s missionary journey involves making converts, strengthening disciples, and appointing elders; essentially planting new churches.

Both passages underscore the importance of healthy church development for the growth of God’s global church.

In addition to sharing good news with the world, Mercy Ministries address the physical needs of communities, reflecting Jesus’ own compassionate ministry of healing, casting out demons, and feeding the hungry. These ministries demonstrate the nearness of God’s kingdom by bridging the gap between the current world and the promised New Heavens and New Earth. They provide credibility to the gospel message, showing God’s reign through tangible acts of love and care (Luke 10:9; Matt 5:16).

How to get involved in Service & Missions at Hope

Missions in the local church

  • Live out the goal of missions. Be a worshiper involved in an Acts 2:41-47 church community. Participate in church life: make Sunday worship a priority, join a community group, become a member, serve, practice hospitality, and support the church financially.

Missions in our community

  • We pray and encourage that our members would be ready to share the gospel as opportunities arise. In keeping with our philosophy of missions, we encourage members to love our community by serving in tangible ways. Contact us for information on organizations that we recommend.

Missions to the ends of the earth

  • Our Missions Committee facilitates our church’s intentional engagement in global missions. Under the oversight of the elders, this committee develops partnerships to support healthy church planting and development, as well as spreading the love of Christ in tangible ways.
